ESTIMATION OF THE COEFFICIENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION OF METALS USING PAIR POTENTIAL FUNCTION.
(Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, 2014-05-05) AKINOLA BOLADE MARY; AKINOLA BOLADE MARY
A polynomial pair potential function has been developed to estimate the temperature dependent coefficient of thermal expansion of metals. The parameters of this pair potential were determined by fitting the experimental values of the bulk material and used to calculate the coefficient of thermal expansion for ten face centered cube (fee) and ten body centered cube (bee) metals at room temperature. A variation of the inter-atomic distance was taken to obtain a cut-off inter-atomic distance re where a comparable value of CTE with experimental values where predicted. The cut off inter-atomic radius for fee metals was re =0.704 and that of bee metals was re =0.8746.

A CRITICAL EVALUATION OF PHILOSOPHY AS A TOOL FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA.
(Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, 2019-03-03) ENIOLA, ELIZABETH OLUWAFOLAHAN; ENIOLA, ELIZABETH OLUWAFOLAHAN
The work adopts qualitative method, using critical and analytical tools of philosophy to interrogate how philosophy is relevant as a tool for sustainable development with specific reference to Nigeria. The study explored the importance of philosophy to human development knowing that for a nation to develop, the human component must develop. It stressed its application to practical life by looking at its relevance to national development. Essentially, the study accentuated the contributions of some contemporary philosophical schools like Epicureanism, Pragmatism and Existentialism in quest for practical philosophy. Furthermore, it brought to fore how philosophy influenced the political sphere and it indicated that every institution of society was based on philosophical ideas, whether that institution was manufacturing industry, business organization, healthcare, religion, law, government, marriage, the family or education. Significantly, it clearly distinguished between modernization and development and argued that the two are not exactly synonymous. The work noted with emphasis that philosophic disparity had led to the defeat of governments, variations in laws, and the reformation of economic systems. Such modification had transpired because the people concerned held definite beliefs as regards what was significant.

ANTI-DIABETIC STUDIES OF Chromolena odrata FLAVONOID FRACTION IN STREPTOZOCIN-TREATED RATS: INVOLVEMENT OF TGR5/INSULIN/PDX 1 PATHWAY
(Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, 2021-11-11) Ojochenemi Aladi ENEJOH; Ojochenemi Aladi ENEJOH
The results showed that CoF up-regulated the expression of insulin and pancreatic duodenal homeobox-1 genes in the pancreas, and GLP-1 in the intestine. In the kidney, BUN/SC levels were restored to pre-STZ treatment states following CoF treatment. Inflammatory and kidney injury molecule -1 genes were equally significantly down-regulated (p<0.05) in STZ-CoF treated group in comparison with STZ-only group. In the aorta, the significant increase of inflammatory genes as a result of STZ treatment, were down-regulated by CoF intervention. CoF also significantly increased antioxidant genes that were down-regulated in the STZ-only group. Histo-structural alterations associated with STZ treatment were completely reversed in STZ-CoF group in the pancreas, kidney and aorta. NOAEL experiments revealed that CoF is relatively safe up to doses of 100 mg/kg b.w. Moleculardynamics simulation confirmed TGR5 as the putative target, where it evolved active state conformation from a starting intermediate state conformation when bound to CoF. Further studies revealed that the performance ofCoF was highly comparable with metformin (an anti-diabetic drug).
