Item ATMOSPHERIC HUMIDITY AND ITS IMPLICATION ON UHF SIGNAL STRENGTH OVER GUSAU, NORTH WEST, NIGERIA(Federal University Gusau Zamfara State, 2018-11-12) ABDULAZIZ IBRAHIM; ABDULAZIZ IBRAHIMStudies have shown that the variability ofradio refractivity is largely driven by atmospheric Humidity and consequently the radio wave propagation in the lower atmosphere. In this study, the effect of atmospheric humidity on radío signal at Ultra High Frequency (UHF) was studied using the dry season month of (January, February, March) and rainy season month of (July, August and September), 2018. The analysis exploited meteorological data measured simultaneously with UHF signal strength using a Davis Vantage Pro2 automatic weather station and UHF signal strength measuring devices respectively. The instruments were situated at the premise of Federal University, Gusau (6° 78' N, 12° 13' E). Regression analysis of the two parameters gave a correlation of 0.428, 0.590, 0.664 for the dry season month of January, February and march respectively while a correlation of -0.204, -0.524 and 0.191 for the rainy season months of July, August and September were obtained .The results show that in addition to other meteorological factors not considered, relative humidity has a significant effect on the signal strength. Also the result shown that better quality signal were observed in the dry season month than the rainy season months.
